When creating version 9.9 we concentrated on 2 main areas - Video, and Accessibility:

Accessibility: Here at Paltalk we believe our members should be able to video chat (SuperIM) with anyone, anywhere, instantly! With the new SuperIM URL feature, video chatting with your friends who are not Paltalk members is easy. Simply pass your SuperIM URL to your friends and 2 clicks later (no downloads by the way) they are video chatting with you!

Here's an overview of the major new features in 9.9

• SuperIM URLs: Personalized links that allow video chat anywhere on the Web with any friend, regardless of whether they are a Paltalk member. SuperIM URLs are extensions ofhttp://www.superim.me/nickname. For the first 2 weeks after release, paid subscribers will be able to choose to customize their SuperIM URL with something other than their nickname. Custom vanity SuperIM URLs look like this: http://customname.superim.me. After the first 2 weeks, all users will be able to customize their SuperIM URLs.
• Facebook Chat Integration: Ability to IM with Facebook friends directly from Paltalk
• Paltalk Mobile Support: IM-based mobile support for the BlackBerry and upcoming IPhone/Andriod versions.
• Video-Centric Look and Feel for SuperIM: We have added four new layout options for video in SuperIM that allow for a better video exprence

• Friends Feed in SideKick: New SideKick Tab shows status updates of Paltalk profile friends' activity.
• ShoutCast Radio: We have added a new catg in the rooms browser called "ShoutCast", there are many rooms in this new catg streaming ShoutCast radio stations!
• High Resolution Video & High Fidelity Audio: Up to 20 frames/sec in SuperIM with improved resolution and a richer, more enhanced audio experience
• Windows 7 Certification: the first video chat provider certified as "Compatible with Windows 7" - the Paltalk platform was first certified on October 7, 2009
• Four new funky sets of emoticons (smileys)
• Login optimization: we have made our login system far more robust and failsafe.

On Monday, some of you probably experienced difficulty logging into Paltalk.  The reason for the difficulty is that we experienced a huge spike in traffic to one of our core login routers.  As the internet has grown, it has gotten easier and easier for rogue users to produce large streams of illegitimate traffic to Internet Service Providers such as Paltalk. We have been working overtime to mitigate the problem in two ways.  The first is that we have upgraded all of the network hardware responsible for filtering out illegitimate internet traffic to the routers.  Second, we built a new release of Paltalk that has more robust capability to login even under the most severe traffic conditions.  The new release is now our production version and can be downloaded from Paltalk.com. 

We appreciate each and every one of our users and we assure you that Paltalk continues to invest heavily in the best Network Infrastructure that money can buy to insure your uninterrupted enjoyment of Paltalk.  Once again, we apologize for any difficulty you experienced and have worked very hard to ameliorate the root cause of the issue.

For example, we wanted to devise a way to highlight our best and most vibrant chat rooms to our new members...so we sat down and racked our brains trying to work out a clever computer algorithm that would expose the best rooms to new members... then we had an epiphany moment; who better to show new members the best chat rooms than our existing members --no computer could know the Paltalk community better than the community itself! And so this was the birth of the Paltalk Guides feature.

Guides are experienced Paltalk members that volunteer to help new users learn about the Paltalk community. If you have a blue, green or purple nickname that's at least 3 months old, you have a profile, and you are a member in good standing, you are eligible to become a Guide. Here's where you opt-in within Paltalk (see the red box):

As a reward for being a Paltalk Guide, you'll get a badge on your profile page. We'll also showcase the top-rated guides on Paltalk from time to time. Good stuff...

Here are some other great new features:

• Now it's easier and more convenient to SuperIM with your friends. SuperIM allows you to voice and video chat with up to 10 people simultaneously - only the initiator of the SuperIM™ session needs to download Paltalk's free software. Everyone invited just clicks a link from their email to join the instant messaging conversation within their internet browser.
• You will also be able to send IMs to your MSN Messenger contacts from within Paltalk, just like you have been able to with your Yahoo!, AOL and ICQ friends.
• Finally, you can now rate a room while you're in the room itself.
